Stop Ignoring Your Ideal Client

Perhaps the most egregious mistake you could make when looking to promote yourself and your service is to brand yourself incorrectly.  Branding is a very important part of marketing your business.  It tells clients - "this is who I am, this is what I do, and this is who I do it for."  You want to do everything in your power to make sure that your ideal client knows that you provide the results that they are after.

Branding encompasses everything from the colours you choose, graphics you post, website design, your personal appearance, your personal public perception, the information you post and the words you use in them.  All of this tells a client that you can help them, or that you can't.  With that said, their brains are looking for alignment between you, your brand and their pain points.  If that exists, they're more likely to hire you.  It's not a complex scenario.

The first step in building your brand is determining who you are and what you do.  If you haven't hammered that home, you're way ahead of yourself.  Slow down and do some reflecting.  Once you know who you are and what you do, the next question is "who do I do it for?"  That person is your "Ideal Client," or IC.  Once that person has been identified, everything you do is going to be geared towards getting their attention.

How do you get their attention? Learn about them!

  • What are their demographics?
  • What are their pain points?
  • What problems are they encountering?
  • How does your service solve the issue?
  • What feeling does this person get when they earn the result?

If you can dial in this information, you can now build your brand specifically to address the needs of that IC down to what colours and language to use in your promotional materials.  Heck, even the way you look matters!  I've probably lost clients because I have neck and hand tattoos... but they're cool and I like them.  So there!

Do your homework on your IC.  They are the ones you want to work with and the ones that are going to pay your bills.  Hone in on a message that addresses their pain points and make sure it's very obvious you can solve their problems.  Do that, and you'll have no issue attracting new clients.

Anyone can post pseudo intellectual verbal diarrhea, which is why so many people do that.  But, those people rarely get paid well.
