The Truth About Bodybuilding Prep You Don’t See on Instagram

Many of you may not know this, but I’ve been prepping for a bodybuilding show for the last 16 weeks and this past weekend it was show day.

After my accident last year, I was told a lot of things about my rehab and the possibility of me returning to my previous level of function - basically, that I wouldn’t… if you know me, you know that this was unacceptable.

For the last 13 months of my life, I would describe myself as “non-negotiable.”  Meaning, that no stone was left unturned and I literally checked every box, from meals, to rehab work, to training, to supplements, to peptides… it was all 100% locked in from the moment I got home from the hospital on July 22, 2024.

Coming off stage this weekend, after winning the Master’s 35+ division and coming 2nd to the overall winner in the Heavyweight Open division, it all hit me.

… and I cried tears of joy and pride.

What I had achieved this year was special.

To show up on stage with the best physique I’ve ever had.  Better legs than ever. Better posing. Better conditioning (I even got feedback that I was the leanest in the show *dusts off shoulder).  All as a result of the work that I put in every single day to be there on that stage for 4-5 minutes.

13 months for 4-5 minutes.

All 100% worth it for that feeling - the feeling that I gave my everything to something.

Now, I know not many of you have aspirations of stepping on a bodybuilding stage, but you’re all pursuing your own level of personal growth through health and fitness.  The fact of the matter is most people never get to where they want to go because they only pay lip service to true effort.

Very few truly invest their entire selves into their pursuits.

I am most proud of the fact that while pursuing the goal of getting on stage, I continued to show up at a high level for my clients, my relationship with my wife got deeper and I was able to continue to build MAP and CCU as businesses.

I never let getting on stage affect the things I value most - and your pursuit of health and fitness should be the same - it should make you a better person in all areas of your life, not be something you have to sacrifice life for.

If you’re interested, I documented a large portion of the journey on my YouTube Channel.  It would mean the world to me if you subscribed and had a watch.

You’ll gain insights into what it takes to get to the stage, lessons about meal prep, training and more importantly the mindset required to pursue excellence in life.  I am basically giving the audience the roadmap to personal growth along my journey to the stage.
